We all like to complain about these live-action movies we’re getting from Disney. I’ll admit, I was very annoyed when stuff started to come out about Beauty and Beast, as it felt like a superfluous remake. And while I’d still concede that, yes, it is a superfluous remake, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy what it ended up being. I pretty much feel like that’s exactly what I’ll be getting with Aladdin, in that it’ll be just different enough for me to potentially like it just a little more than its animated counterpart.
But does this one lowly, stupid voice on the internet matter in the grand scheme of things? I mean, the answer is no. We already know that. But is this voice reflective of what the general public may be thinking about the movie as a whole? It’s very possible that it does. It’s definitely still early to be making concrete projections, but that’s never stopped some services from doing the dirty work, and in this case, we have Box Office Pro doing the heavy-lifting.

According to the outlet, Aladdin is expected to hit $70 to $90 million in its three-day weekend, but in terms of its four-day haul (it will be opening Memorial Day Weekend, after all), it is expected to hit $85 million to $115 million in North America alone. We don’t really know much money this thing was made for, but given their track record, $175 million seems like $150 million is a safe bet.
That opening would just be a small dent, but if Disney’s track record is any indication, they could have a long tail. That being said, in the immediate weeks following, movies like Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Dark Phoenix, and Men in Black International are all hitting, so it’s hard to tell just how much these films will be stealing from each other in terms of box office gross. Yes, Aladdin is more family-friendly than all of these, but there is some crossover.
