Alaqua Cox talks Echo, and leading her own Marvel series after making her debut in Hawkeye released later this month. In the video below, Variety caught up with Cox on the red carpet at Hawkeye‘s premiere on Wednesday night.
“It’s just so crazy that I’m getting my own show after Hawkeye. That was like my first acting role, ever,” Cox told a reporter from Variety. “I don’t know why they’re giving me this opportunity, but I’m just grateful. I’m excited for the support and being able to advocate for the Deaf community. We want to have that equality and get more people involved. I’m just so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve been given.”

Cox was working a warehouse job in Milwaukee when friends found out Marvel had a casting call for a Deaf Native American character. The rest as they say, is history.

An Echo show was heavily rumored amongst the leaks community, but the show was officially announced at Disney + Day last Friday. Exactly what that Echo show will entail is currently unknown? However, there are rumors that both Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will appear as Daredevil and Kingpin respectively. Given there are also rumors D’Onofrio shows up in Hawkeye, one wonders if Echo works for Kingpin initially?
I guess there is comic history, but outside that it seems like a cool dynamic to pair a Deaf character with a Blind character. If that’s the way Echo shakes out of course, I’m just speculating here.
