Earlier this year, Anna Kendrick opened up in a People Magazine interview about a past relationship being emotionally and psychologically abusive. As art imitates life, her new psychological thriller Alice, Darling follows a similar story of a young woman trying to escape an abusive relationship.
The trailer has two closest friends taking her on a getaway, but she is constantly drawn to and haunted by her current boyfriend.
Here is the official synopsis:
In the taut thriller Alice, Darling, Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick (Best Supporting Actress for Up in the Air in 2009) stars as a woman pushed to the breaking point by her psychologically abusive boyfriend, Simon. While on vacation with two close girlfriends, Alice rediscovers the essence of herself and gains some much-needed perspective. Slowly, she starts to fray the cords of codependency that bind her. But Simon’s vengeance is as inevitable as it is shattering—and, once unleashed, it tests Alice’s strength, her courage, and the bonds of her deep-rooted friendships.
The film also stars Kaniehtiio Horn (Possessorb, Hulu’s Letterkenny), Charlie Carrick (Hidden Assets, Departure), and Wunmi Mosaku (HBO’s Lovecraft Country, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them). Mary Nighy makes her feature film directorial debut from the screenplay written by Alanna Francis (The Rest of Us).
