Ridley Scott seems to have Alien fever. After spending decades far and away from the Alien franchise, which he kickstarted back in 1979, he seems to have gained a renewed sense of purpose for it. Prometheus was his first revisit to this dark, demented world, and on the heels of that 2012 feature, he developed Alien: Covenant — a true prequel to Alien.
And it sounds like Scott isn’t going to stop it there, or any time soon. Last March, Scott stated that the next film was written and that, one has to assume success so that they could be ready to attack the next film. He also stated that he’d be ready to go next year, and it sounds like that wasn’t just lip service.

Speaking with IGN, Scott doubled down on his previous claims of getting the sequel done sooner rather than later (though it sounds like the script for the next one is still in process):
“We’re writing [a sequel] now, as we speak. I’ll be filming that within 14 months.”
Of course, right now, the jury is still out as to whether or not audiences will connect with the film. Based on the initial response from critics, Alien: Covenant is decent, but not great. Will the film end up making enough to recoup its costs and justify a sequel? That remains to be seen.
The official synopsis for Alien: Covenant is below:
“The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.â€
