Alien: Covenant Trailer – The Path To Paradise Begins In Hell

The Alien franchise is officially back in full swing. It was a film series that began decades back with Alien, continued with Aliens, and then officially fell off the rails with the David Fincher-directed Alien 3. Discounting the Alien vs. Predator films, it pretty much sat in hibernation for a while.

A few years back, director Ridley Scott returned to the helm for Prometheus, a film they stated was made with the same DNA as Alien. Despite the filmmaker’s many warnings that Prometheus would not be a direct prequel to Alien, fans continued to take it as gospel that it would, in fact, be a direct prequel to Alien. So when the credits rolled in Prometheus, and we were left with the most loose of connections to the original films, fans were left unsatisfied. Would Ridley Scott leave us with these threads dangling?

It turns out now. Scott began work on a sequel to Prometheus, but before long, it turned into legit prequel entitled Alien: Covenant. The first trailer we had came in the form of a red band trailer last Christmas, which was bloody and violent. Last night, however, 20th Century Fox dropped a more reserved trailer — one that gives us some insight into the plot and style of the film.

Check it out below:

We have to say, we love how this trailer works to build the mystery surrounding this empty, vegetative planet. We also love that they’re not hiding the fact that this is an Alien film, and we can see incarnations of the Xenomorphs in full swing in this trailer. All in all, this looks like the Alien film fans have been waiting for.

The official synopsis for Alien: Covenant is below:

“Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.”
