Alita: Battle Angel Goes Behind-The-Scenes With James Cameron & Robert Rodriguez

A couple weeks back, audiences were surprised by the unexpected Alita: Battle Angel trailer, from director Robert Rodriguez.

Not only was it unexpected because many of us had forgotten that the film was even coming out, but it was unexpected in the way it approached its lead character’s look. The underlying emotional element was another thing that I hadn’t expected, and it made for a pleasant surprise of a watch.

Now, 20th Century Fox looks to be capitalizing on that buzz with a short, 35-second behind-the-scenes video. The subject: how Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron came to work together on this film (with Cameron working as a producer, and Rodriguez as a director).

In the video above, Rodriguez said:

“Jim and I have tried to collaborate several times before, and he mentioned that he was only going to be doing Avatar movies. I was like, ‘Well what happens to movies like Battle Angel?’ Just as a fan. He said, ‘If you can crack the script, you can direct it.’”

This isn’t exactly new information — we reported on this a couple weeks back, but it’s also accompanied by some great behind-the-scenes footage of Rodriguez and Cameron on set, which is always great for film geeks like us.
