Altered Carbon Season 2 Gets a Release Date

We’ve known for a while that the Netflix body-swapping sci-fi drama was due to return with Anthony Mackie taking over the lead role from Joel Kinnaman, we just didn’t know when…until now. The official Altered Carbon Twitter account just let it be known that the series will be available to stream on 27 February 2020.

This is great news for fans who have been waiting for it to return ever since it premiered in 2018. Joining Mackie this season will be Simone Missick (Marvel’s Luke Cage), Dina Shihabi (Jack Ryan), Torben Leibrecht (Beyond the Sea), and James Saito (Marvel’s Iron Fist).  Will Yun Lee, who portrayed Takeshi in his original body will also be returning. While the first season was based on the novel of the same name by Richard Morgan, not much is known about the story for this season, as it will be a wholly original work.

Alison Schapker, writer and producer of shows like AliasLostFringe, and The CW’s The Flash, has joined the show as co-showrunner.

In a future where the human soul has been digitized and the rich can afford to download their “stacks” into body after body, essentially achieving immortality, Altered Carbon follows Takeshi Kovacs, a former interstellar warrior known as an Envoy. Following an imprisonment that has gone on for 250 years, he’s released and enlisted to help a rich man solve his own murder.

What do you think? Are you excited for Altered Carbon to return?
