Amazon Cancels The Tick After Two Seasons

Back in 1986 Ben Edlund created a character called The Tick. Two years later in 1988 he got his own comic book series, but it was an animated television series on FOX in 1994 that really allowed The Tick to gain it’s mainstream popularity. A live action series and video game followed. Thirty years after the creation of The Tick, Edlund created a web series for Amazon Video that premiered on their streaming service on August 18th, 2016. About a month and a half ago we saw the premiere of their second season that consisted of ten episodes.

Saldy we have learned today via Edlund on Twitter that The Tick has been cancelled by Amazon.

As we are now living in a world where streaming services are all competing for content, so as a fan of the series I am glad to hear that they will be working on hard on trying to find a new home for our heroes. The last season of The Tick was executive produced by Edlund and Barry Sonnenfeld. The series was co-produced with Sony Pictures Television.

In case you have not seen the series on Amazon Prime Video, it centers around the very proud, powerful and often airhead superhero Tick, played by Peter Serefinowicz, who teams up with Arthur, played by Griffin Newman, a very nervous, small and very reluctant sidekick of the Tick. In their world superheroes are nothing out of the ordinary, but super villains are rare sight until the return of The Terror, played by Jackie Earle Haley. Also starring on the series is Varlorie Curry, Brendan Hines, Yara Martinez, Scott Speiser, Michael Cerveris, John Pirkins and the voice of Alan Tudyk.

As a fan of the superhero genre in general I have enjoyed the two season of The Tick as it offered a more light hearted approach to superheros. I also really liked both Serefinowicz and Newman’s take on the characters. Hopefully we will see then again on a different streaming service. Destiny Awaits!

You can stream both season of The Tick on Amazon Prime Video
