Amazon Inks Deals With Brad Pitt, Steve McQueen, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Diego Luna

Amazon has acquired some new ammunition for the ongoing saga of the “streaming wars.”

Just announced today during the Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour, Amazon Studios has inked overall television deals with Brad Pitt’s Plan B, as well as the production companies of Steve McQueen, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Diego Luna. The news was delivered by Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke just six months after the company used their time at TCA to announce major television deals with Connie Britton, Lena Waithe and Forest Whitaker.

The new deals join the current ones Amazon has setup with writing duos Amy Sherman-Palladino & Daniel Palladino (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Lisa Joy & Jonathan Nolan (Westworld), and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), among others. The new deal with Pitt’s Plan B will be an extension of its already existing plan that began with Moonlight‘s Best Picture Oscar win. McQueen will continue to develop the global event series Last Days and BBC Studios-produced anthology Small Axe for the streaming service.

Amazon’s acquisitions comes as the already established streaming services (Amazon, Netflix and Hulu) attempt to sign top talent to their rosters as their new competition (Disney+ and AppleTV+) settle in. The battle for talent will only intensify as future series like HBO Max and Peacock enter the battlefield.

The “streaming wars” are officially here!
