Hey, we are fanboys the same as you guys, so when someone has a cool Avengers 4 theory, I’m reading it. It so happens one such theory has created quite the buzz on Reddit. This theory was posted by WamsyTheOneAndOnly on Reddit a few days ago. It’s certainly interesting, but of course as we fans do, other redditors have pointed out a few holes in the theory, which might make you think twice. Let’s just be clear however, this is a fan theory only, so make up your own mind.
The theory goes that whilst Doctor Strange was using the Time Stone to view all possible futures in Avengers: Infinity War, he found only one positive outcome as we know. Strange had to allow Thanos to perform the snap which killed half of the life in the universe. Ok, so far I think we were all pretty much thinking the same thing, but the redditor does go deeper.
The poster claims that Strange is actively setting up events at this point to lead towards this one possible positive outcome. That Doctor Strange sees a future where Captain Marvel is able to save the day somehow. Wamsy thinks Doctor Strange is going to show up in the Captain Marvel movie to speak with Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury and tell him it is vital that he carry around the pager with him that can contact Captain Marvel. Thus, Fury is aware of Doctor Stephen Strange and lists him as an ally of SHIELD. This is why Hydra mention Stephen Strange as an example of someone who could pose a threat to them in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Wamsy also speculates that Strange warned Fury that one day, people would start turning to dust around him, and that when that day comes, he must page Captain Marvel back home.
Now as I said, there are a few counters to point out here. The major one being that Hydra mentioning Stephen Strange as one of the possible targets when their heli-carrier system goes online, does not mean they had to be aware of his future or his past. Instead, if you’ll remember Armin Zola’s algorithm was designed to read various patterns and predict threats that don’t even exist yet. Also, in a more real-world situation, The Russo Bros and the writing duo of Markus and McFeely were a bit busy writing/directing The Winter Soldier, and it was long before they started work on Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers 4.
With all the rumors of time travel in Avengers 4, it would be a neat way to have Doctor Strange be the one to set up Captain Marvel as the late match winner for team Avengers. Let us know what you think of this theory in the comments section below as always.
