Andor May Be A Critical Hit But Viewership Figures Are Poor Sadly

Diego Luna On Cassian's Search For His Sister In Andor

This is why we can’t have nice things folks. Andor may be a critical hit, but viewership figures are sadly poor. At least when we compare Andor to the previous Star Wars shows in Disney+. There are far less people watching Andor than Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, and The Mandalorian.

Honestly, I expected lower figures for Andor. I already see that there are some Star Wars fans bemoaning that this show is not for them. Andor is a slower, more adult, character based drama. There are spectacular action sequences and visuals to boot, but the core of the show, is the script. Here are the figures from analyst Brandon Katz.

I wish this were not so, I really do. Andor is not just my favorite Star Wars show to date, it’s my fave Star Wars anything for a long time. Therefore to see that this more mature take did not catch with audiences is disheartening because it means Lucasfilm are less likely to try it again.

It’s going to be hard for Disney to conclude that anything but the current formula is an acceptable way to proceed. I hope that viewing figures are not the be all and end all of Disney’s yardstick. However, who am I kidding, that’s kinda the whole point isn’t it?

When I wrote this article I still hadn’t seen Andor Episode 7. I look forward to watching it later today and then writing my review. However tings would have to take a dramatic nose dive to turn me off from this excellent show and I just don’t see that happening.

In the link you can see above I wrote almost an open letter to Lucasfilm to make more content like Andor. Sadly, I think they’ll perhaps be reversing that title and we’ll get more Boba Fett and less Andor. I hope not.

So Andor viewership figures are poor compared to all other Star Wars shows, and whilst it’s not surprising, it’s also the a little sad.
