In a recent interview Andy Muschietti says Batman: The Brave and the Bold is still coming and that Battinson won’t be in the DCU. However, the director also confirms that the movie is delayed due to the delay for The Batman Part 2.
Recent days have seen a lot of rumor and some official comments which indicate The Batman movie could be incorporated into the new DCU. We at east know the idea has been proposed. Insiders say that James Gunn wants Matt Reeves’ The Batman and star Robert Pattinson.
Yesterday, (for me) we ran a story with some comments from Matt Reeves himself. Check the related link below. However, Reeves for once was a bit more non-committal about the possibility.
Which then makes it strange that just a day or so later Muschietti gives this interview to Radio TU.
Translation below.
“As everyone knows, the Batman featured in The Brave and the Bold will belong to the new DC universe. It’s quite obvious that Matt Reeves’ Batman is not part of this new universe. However, DC and Warner Bros. are moving forward with the second part of Reeves’ Batman series, which, as widely reported, is expected to release around 2027. This means the next Batman movie [Brave and the Bold] will take some time before it sees the light of day.”
“Releasing two Batman films simultaneously would be counterproductive. What DC is doing is creating a strategy to ensure these two films don’t conflict with each other. Regarding my involvement in the project, there are good intentions for now. They want to do the movie with me, and I want to do it as well. I’m eager to work on the film. We are talking about the story and the tone.”

So that is clear as mud right? I mean, who is writing The Brave and the Bold? Muschietti is not a writer/director. Is this really a wise choice to delay Batman entering the DCU just to give it space with The Batman Part 2? Is it more likely Gunn and Reeves want to see if they can make the universes co-exist first before committing to a completely different Batman? Muschietti would surely not be involved in that level of discussions.
I guess until Gunn says something more concrete, we will have to wait and see. I’m starting to think I’d not be shocked if The Batman does retroactively become the first DCU movie. At the same time, will it work, or would the DCU be better just going with their own Batman and leaving Reeves to his trilogy of films and spin-off shows focused solely on Gotham City?
Watch this space for more news as it drops.
