Zachary Levi, Neal McDonough, Meg Fraser, Julio Quintana | Angel and the Badman INTERVIEW

Zachary Levi, Neal McDonough and Meg Fraser are just some of the stars in Angel and the Badman. Among the cast it also includes Academy Award® winner Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive, No Country For Old Men). As this makes the remake of a classic John Wayne film from 1947. This modern version of Angel and the Badma was directed by Julio Quintana.

The Synopsis

When feared outlaw Quirt Evans (Zachary Levi, “Shazam”) staggers onto a rancher’s land with a bullet in his back, he expects a quick death, not mercy. But Penny (Meg Fraser, “Bloody Hell”), the rancher’s daughter, offers him a chance at something he’s never had: a life beyond violence. However, the past doesn’t forgive. With the marshal closing in and an outlaw gang ready to burn the ranch to the ground, Quirt must decide what kind of man he’ll be when the world demands blood.

Zachary Levi was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana but grew up under the California sunshine in Ventura County. Finding his passion in acting since the age of six years old. After graduating from high school he moved to Los Angeles to fulfill his acting career. His character of “Kipp” in Less Than Perfect was his first breakthrough. The bigger breakthrough came as a protagonist in Chuck. Now Levi is also a singer, producer and director on top as an actor. A few of his popular characters can be seen in the Disney animated Tangled, Thor: The Dark World and Shazam! One of his upcoming projects is Undercover with Cole Sprouse.

One of my favorite big and small screen villains is Neal McDonough. Native of Dorchester, Massachusetts grew up in a Catholic Irish-American family. McDonough attended Syracuse University for theater and gained acting experience while attending London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He became first known for his participation in the classic 2001 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers while playing “Buck.” Today he has over 200 credits and among them include Boomtown, Minority Report, The Guardian and Captain America: The First Avenger.

The Australian actress, Meg Fraser studied in Queensland University of Technology and in 2018 graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Acting. Fraser’s first feature film was in 2020 in the horror genre, in Bloody Hell. Followed by other projects like One Perfect Match and Take My Hand. Wolf Creek: Legacy is a new project to come in 2027

The  Cuban-American filmmaker, Julio Quintana was born in Los Angeles but grew up between several states. He originally attended the University of Texas in Austin to study mechanical engineering, but ended up graduating with a religious studies degree  and a second in radio television film. After graduating and working in The Tree of Life as a cinematographer and To The Wonder he found his sway to his own style. In 2016 he made his debut as a director in The Vessel starring Martin Sheen. Other projects later came like Blue Miracle and one of my favorites, The Long Game. He currently has a The Sanctified in development.

Last week I took part in a press day held for Angel and the Badman. I was connected with Zachary Levi, Neal McDonough, Meg Fraser and Julio Quintana via Zoom to discuss the film. Fraser spoke about the spin in the family dynamic layout and how it helped for her character of “Penny”. Levi of course shared how he felt in getting to play a classic John Wayne character. McDonough commented on his villain character that stands out for being polite. Quintana commented on maintaining the essence of the original story while making some tweaks as a modern film and more!
