Marvel TV Boss Comments On Young Avengers/Champions Frustrations

We all know the MCU has been building towards Young Avengers/ Champions and now Marvel’s TV boss comments on frustrations in that process. We really expected a Young Avengers series quite some time ago now given all the teases. However, things went slightly south for Marvel and the recalibration meant the series never happened. Far as we know it i still being developed and was most recently titled Champions. Still nothing official though.

Speaking on the show below, Winderbaum was asked not quite directly whether a Young Avengers project can still happen?

Winderbaum on the MCU setting these characters up,

“That is definitely true.”

Asked how he manages the expectation, from fans and elsewhere when something like this is set up but hasn’t yet materialised?

“Let me yell you how it works. You know, I get to develop a lot of cool ideas. Yeah. And you imagine like being in my position and being a fan of stuff and being like, ‘Okay, that’s awesome and that’s awesome, and like let’s try to make it.’ So there’s like a lot of stuff like we’re always trying to make, you know, but it’s a, Hollywood’s a funnel. Like not everything makes it for a million reasons, not everything makes it to the screen. And I’ve had my heart broken like so many times, that’s the business.”

“But like you keep trying to push the things you love forward, and you know, sometimes you’re able to make VisionQuest. And like, sometimes there’s things that like sit around for a while and all of a sudden pop and they go, and you’re like, ‘Oh my god, I can’t believe this is real.’ And sometimes, you’re sitting on something great and it takes a long time, and you know it hurts. Yeah. Oh man, sorry if that’s too much information.”

Which to be fair sounds like it was and is planned/hoped for. However, so far no one has pitched the right idea, or pitched ideas haven’t turned out the way they hoped? I guess we will just have to wait and see if this one ever gets into production. However, one glaring problem is the ages of the cast not exactly been kids/young adults anymore. Hailee Steinfeld, (pictured above) is 29 and will be in her 30’s before any show is in production.

Two potential Young Avengers characters have been set up in both Agatha All Along and it’s thematical follow up VisionQuest. Winderbaum confirms here that the plan was always for one to tell Billy’s story and the other Tommy’s.

“The first one would be a portrait of one brother and the second would be a portrait of the other. We were fans of Young Avengers and Children’s Crusade and those characters in the books.”
