Studio Ghibli has a new CG film and Weta is turning to animation!
Earwig and the Witch First Look
Studio Ghibli is turning to CG 3D for its next film Earwig and the Witch. This film is notable because it is Goro Miyazaki’s third directed film and the first since 2011. While there have been computer-generated graphics implemented to enhance Ghibli’s 2D graphics this is the first full-length 3DCG feature film. Stills were recently published featuring the main characters and setting of the film. While it is different to see Ghibli have a full 3D film Earwig and the Witch looks visually appealing.

Lord of the Rings digital studio Weta launches an animation studio
Weta is a well-known graphics studio providing special effects for Lord of the Rings and Avatar. It was recently reported that the studio is looking to expand its reach by producing several animation projects. Additionally, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh will write, direct, and produce these projects. Prem Akkaraju will act as the first CEO in the company’s history. Akkaraju will add many employees brought to work under Weta Animated. It will be interesting to see what Weta creates and where they choose to publish their content.
“We are huge fans of animated storytelling in all of its forms, but it can be a long, protracted, and often costly way to make movies. That’s, in part, why we have created this company – to change the model and open the doors to filmmakers and storytellers who might not otherwise be given the chance to show what they can do.”- Peter Jackson
