Dig sci-fi? You may dig this new trailer for Archive.

If we’re missing anything in Hollywood these days, it’s some honest to goodness sci-fi. Sure, every now and then you get something like Ex Machina or Arrival, but not too often. And you can forget about another Blade Runner 2049 hitting any time soon. It’s a gorgeous genre with the potential to tell deep and meaningful stories, but it’s not the most accessible. So when a good-looking one does hit, it’s hard not to embrace it.

For my money, Archive looks like it could be one of those movies. Set in the year 2038, it features a man doing what he can to reunite with his dead wife. Yeah, you don’t exactly have to be a genius to know that this is ripe for all kinds of drama. But just because the story is well-worn doesn’t mean it isn’t one worth telling. The cinematography and production design look gorgeous and the direction taut and thrilling.

Below is the official synopsis for Archive:

“2038: George Almore is working on a true human-equivalent AI. His latest prototype is almost ready. This sensitive phase is also the riskiest. Especially as he has a goal that must be hidden at all costs: being reunited with his dead wife.”

I do know that this movie was supposed to premiere at SXSW this year, but due to the pandemic, that never happened. As such, I hope this movie is able to hit streaming services very soon.
