Anime Classic Neon Genesis Evangelion Heading To Netflix

If you’re an anime fan who came of age in the 1990s, chances are that after you downed the likes of Pokémon, Dragonball z, and The Vision of Escaflowne, you may have made your way down the list of must-sees of years past, and at the top of every anime list out there was none other than Neon Genesis Evangelion.

The original series is still beloved by anime fans today, and has spawned endings and film retellings by acclaimed filmmaker Hideaki Anno. The series in every iteration is weird, confusing, frustrating, and about as obtuse as one would expect from an anime series — in fact, one could argue that it helped create the stereotype. If you’ve somehow managed to avoid this series since its inception, we have good news.

Netflix has just announced via a video announcement that they have acquired exclusive streaming rights to the original anime series. In addition to the 26-episode series, they will also stream The End of Evangelion and Evangelion: Death (True)2. There is no word yet on if they’ll be streaming the film retellings, but if this hits it off, one could assume that’s a possibility down the line.

Have you had a chance to experience the original series yet? If not, will this finally help you take the leap? Let us know your thoughts down below!
