Anja Marquardt Talks About The Making Of Starz Girlfriend Experience S3 [Exclusive Interview]

Anja Marquardt is the writer and director of the third installment of The Girlfriend Experience on STARZ. Each season explores the story of an exclusive escort’s life and their clients.

 

The Synopsis

“The Girlfriend Experience” Season 3 is set amidst the London tech scene and focuses on Iris, a neuroscience major. As she begins to explore the transactional world of The Girlfriend Experience, Iris (Julia Goldani Telles, “Slender Man”) quickly learns that her client sessions provide her with a compelling edge in the tech world and vice versa. She then begins to question whether her actions are driven by free will, or something else altogether, and heads down a deep path of exploration.

Anja Marquardt is a German director who pursued his masters degree by attending NYU. She started her career collaborating in short films. Her first award came during Cinequest San Jose Film Festival for Best Student Short for writing and directing the short film “Thanksgiving” in 2009. Her first feature film was with She’s Lost Control gaining several nominations and an award during the Berlin International Film Festival in 2014.

I was connected with Anja Marquardt via Zoom to discuss the making of The Girlfriend Experience season three. She shared being a fan of the series before getting the opportunity to be a part of it. Marquardt also shared a little bit about the writing process and how the cinematography came together.
