Ant-Man And The Wasp Star Evangeline Lilly Was Irritated By Her Lost Character

Evangeline Lilly has not been in very many roles as an actress, after breaking out as Kate Austin in the hit TV show Lost, Lilly has only really appeared as Tauriel in The Hobbit Trilogy and of course as Hope Van Dyne in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Considering Lost is one of the biggest TV shows of all time and both The Lord of the Rings and The Marvel Cinematic Universe are two of the biggest movie franchises going, that’s not bad at all.

Part of this comes down to how picky Lilly is of her roles and if she doesn’t feel a particular role she is offered, she is happy enough to simply say no. Lilly was almost famously replaced as Kate Austin right before shooting on Lost due to a visa issue, with Lilly not having the credentials to work in the US as a Canadian. It seems as if fate was on her side more than once, as she almost quit acting completely before being offered the role of Tauriel by director Peter Jackson in The Hobbit movies. Then after agreeing to star as Hope Van Dyne in Edgar Wrights Ant-Man for Marvel, the actress almost quit again when she heard Edgar Wright had decided not to helm the movie.

Now Lilly is sharing top billing on Ant-Man and the Wasp with co-star Paul Rudd, a first for a female star in the MCU. Looking back on her career, what does Lilly now think of Kate Austin, the role that made her famous. Here is what the star told The Independent when discussing her career so far

“I always thought she was obnoxious, not at the beginning – at the beginning, she was kind of cool. But as the show went on, I thought she became more and more predictable. I felt that my character went from being autonomous – really having her own story, journey and agendas – to chasing two men around the island. That irritated the shit out of me.”

To be fair Miss Lilly, I think Lost was guilty of doing this kind of thing with a lot of their characters and not just Kate Austin. I guess this is what happens when you ‘cough‘ don’t know how to end it ‘cough‘. I was a fan of Lost to begin with, but like many, I was left scratching my head at the final season of the show. Yet, Kate was probably always one of my favorite characters, maybe I just liked Lilly as an actress?
