Aphton Corbin Talks About Her Coming To Age Pixar Short Film Twenty Something [Exclusive Interview]

Twenty Something

Pixar Animation Studios new SparkShort “Twenty Something” explores Gia’s heartfelt belief: Adulting can be hard. Some days you’re nailing it, while other days, you’re just a stack of kids hiding in a trench coat hoping no one notices. Gia finds herself in this exact scenario the night of her 21st birthday. Director Aphton Corbin, who considers herself a collection of children trying to pass as an adult, says Gia is a reflection of her own anxieties. Produced by Erik Langley and created using hand-drawn animation, Pixar Animation Studios’ “Twenty Something” launches on Disney+ on Sept. 10, 2021. © 2021 Disney/Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

Twenty Something is a new Pixar short that is being released this Friday exclusively on Disney+. It is early in those twenty something years that we finally transition from teenager to adult. Pixar has always been good at amplifying feelings or moments that are very pivotal to us. In this short by Aphton Corbin that is no different!

In Twenty Something we find Gia celebrating her twenty-first birthday. This is such an important moment in people’s life. To celebrate this grand occasion, people sometimes go out to a club or to a bar. Places that until their twenty-first birthday were unwelcoming as they didn’t meet the age requirements. It could feel like the world is in your hands. Or maybe something quite the opposite could happen. You freeze in the moment and all of a sudden you could feel small, like a kid again completely out of your element. Nevertheless, I think it’s a wonderful time in people’s life because you can now discover so many more things!
