Rashida Jones, known for her versatile acting, was seeking a project that would truly test her skills. She found this in the Apple TV+ mystery series Sunny, which not only required her to adapt to the culture and language of Kyoto, Japan, but also to interact with a talking robot.
The series Sunny boasts a stellar cast, including Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation, Celeste & Jesse Forever) as Suzie, Joanna Sotomura (Barry, The Good Place), annie the clumsy (Ane No Koe, Miss Osaka), Jun Kunimura (Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Kate), Hidetoshi Tishimima (Drive My Car, the Wind Rises), Judy Ongg (Love Can Forgive and Forget), Fares Belheir, and YOU (Nobody Knows, Still Walking).
Here is the official synopsis:
Sunny stars Jones as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation” she’s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company. Though at first, Suzie resents Sunny’s attempts to fill the void in her life, gradually they develop an unexpected friendship. Together they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s family and become dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed.
