Aquaman Could Be Headed For A $100 Million Plus Opening Weekend

When the embargo was lifted yesterday for early Aquaman reactions, social media lit up with positive comments about James Wan’s DC Comics film about the king of Atlantis, Aquaman played by Jason Momoa. All these positive remarks could earn the latest DCEU film a $100 million plus during it’s opening weekend at the domestic box office according to The Wrap.

The last time a DC film had this much positive reactions was before the release of Wonder Woman. Ahead of it’s official tracking estimates which aren’t due until Thursday, analysts are likely to give Aquaman it’s first $100 million plus opening since back in June when Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom received those numbers.

If Aquaman could reach $100 million plus then it would be the fourth best opening for a DCEU film, coming behind Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice which earned $166 million, Man of Steel which earned $116 million, Wonder Woman which made $103 million. But it would beat out last year’s Justice League which brought in a disappointing $93 million.

Here is the synopsis for Aquaman:
From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an acition-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.
