He continued, “His father wanted to do it really badly. I wanted to do it really badly. Danny DeVito wanted to do it really badly. We had the financing. When his father passed away, Jason says, ‘I never liked the idea’ and put a hold on it.”

In response, Schwarzenegger said that he’s currently “developing another movie with Danny” instead, adding, “He’s so much fun to work with and so talented.” 

I mean it could simply be a case of Jason Reitman looking at the script and deciding it’s not good enough. Though, based on past experience I would rate Ivan’s opinion over his son’s for now. I think there is definitely potential for the Twins sequel, maybe the script just needs another pass to get it right? However, for now, it does seem as though that Twins sequel is dead in the water. Let’s see what else can happen to see Arnold and Danny back on screen together. I mean he could just show up as Frank’s twin brother on Sunny, I think we’d wall watch that.

As for the Twins sequel we only really know one detail that was always said to be an element. That the movie would have featured a third brother, (maybe they call it Triplets?) and it was going to be Eddie Murphy. As a concept there’s some comedy gold there for sure, but I guess it has to be good, a concept alone isn’t funny. Check the related link above for the information on that film we had at the time.

EW also reached out to Reitman’s reps, but so far hadn’t had a response by the time of publishing. Maybe he will have something to say in return?
