Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to star in a new espionage TV series. Could it be a True Lies reboot? The untitled show comes from Scorpion creator Nick Santora for Skydance Television. Deadline say that the series will be a global spy adventure with a father (Schwarzenegger) and daughter at the center of the story. The role of the daughter has not yet been cast. However, the outlet does report that the casting process is underway for the role of Schwarzenegger’s on-screen daughter.

There is no platform for the show yet, but Skydance are ready to shop it around to the various streaming giants. Santoro has an overall deal with Skydance and is also executive producer/showrunner of the studio’s upcoming Jack Reacher series for Amazon. Schwarzenegger executive produces the new series along with Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Bill Bost; Carolyn Harris will oversee the project for the company.

This would be the first scripted TV role for Schwarzenegger, having previously only appeared in unscripted The Apprentice. Schwarzenegger is set to reprise his role from Twins in a new movie called Triplets. Danny DeVito will also return, with Eddie Murphy making up the new addition to the family. Schwarzenegger will also star in the upcoming Kung Fury II: The Movie, which I cannot wait to see as I loved the first movie.

There doesn’t appear to be any information on the tone of this upcoming espionage show. Having Arnie play spy with a daughter, certainly gives me the True Lies feeling of action-comedy rather than serious drama, but who knows for sure? The thing is, this would not be the first I have heard rumors of a potential True Lies TV reboot/continuation. Is it possible that this new untitled show could be a True Lies sequel? Yes, it is possible, but that is purely speculation on my part, for now. I just have a funny feeling that this very solid report, could be connected to a few less solid rumors I have heard. Maybe I’m way out if line on this, so we will wait and see.

I’m just happy to see Arnie back working again, and the project not to be Terminator related.
