Arrow Star Stephen Amell To Compete On American Ninja Warrior

You don’t need to have perfect vision that Arrow star Stephen Amell is one ripped dude. In order to sell the idea of him being some dark guardian of Star City, he needed to be. After all, like Batman, he is just a man against foes greater and more powerful than himself, so he needed a fit body to counter his adversaries.

In Season 1, they made a joking staple of Amell working that salmon ladder in his training montages. In many ways, the montages became a staple of the show, and so good did they do with it that when Ben Affleck got around to doing his own montage in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, they didn’t do it nearly as well as Arrow.

It looks like all Amell’s hard work is about to get put to good use. According to the actor’s Twitter account, he will be competing on the NBC sports game show American Ninja Warrior:

“I’m doing #AmericanNinjaWarrior with Master Ninja Coach The Mighty @KacyCatanzaro, May 25th on NBC. YOU WILL BEENTERTAINED!!!”

For those who don’t know, American Ninja Warrior is a show that pushes the world’s best athletes and their bodies to the limit with some finely crafted obstacle courses. The show was a spinoff of a Japanese series, and has been going on since 2009. In its long run, only two athletes have completed all the courses, and only one has ever walked away as the “American Ninja Warrior,” so needless to say, the task will be a tough one.

Amell won’t be the only celebrity competing. Joining the CW star are Erika Christensen (Parenthood), Derek Hough (Dancing With the Stars), Today co-host Natalie Morales, two-time Olympic gold medalist Ashton Eaton, comedian/TV host Nikki Glaser, former Yankees athlete Nick Swisher, comedian Jeff Dye, and actress Mena Suvari (American Beauty).

“Elite ninjas” will be paired as follows with the celebs, serving as both coach and cheerleader: Kevin Bull/Eaton, Kacy Catanzaro/Amell, Drew Drechsel/Swisher, Natalie Duran/Suvari, Daniel Gil/Hough, Jessie Graff/Glaser), Grant McCartney/Morales, Meagan Martin/Dye and Flip Rodriguez/Christensen.

This celeb edition of American Ninja Warrior will kick off NBC’s third annual night of Red Nose Day programming, which raises money and awareness to help children living in poverty in America and around the world.

Will Stephen Amell’s hard work in the Arrow cave pay off, or will he plummet to the icy depths of the shallow waters of the American Ninja Warrior course? only time will tell.
