Arrow: Will The Longbow Hunters Impress?

Wow, what a return Arrow had for its seventh season last week!  Aside from solid writing, fans got to see former enemies, the return of Diaz, a new Green Arrow, and William and Roy Harper from the future!  What awaits fans this week?  Read on to find out!

Flash Forward — In the future, William tells Roy about Oliver and Felicity leaving him (which happened in the present-time last episode). The stone Felicity gave William last week had a GPS that took him to Lian Yu.  Roy tells him that everything there will lead him to pain.  This has me curious.  Do Oliver and Felicity really never have contact with William again?  Viewers find out that Roy went to Lian Yu to escape his past. (I guess all of those explosions didn’t destroy the island too badly.) Now William refuses to leave until he finds answers.

I like this idea of continually passing on the torch, and it makes for interesting connections to the source material. Roy and William find Oliver’s old bow with a message in it that Roy immediately burns and tells William they have to go back to the city.  What do you think was on the note?  Roy seemed adamant to not let William see it.  Finally, the flash forward seasons are interesting and worthwhile again! The writers have also done a good job of providing small nods to previous seasons, such as William saying that he had not been to the island since his mother was killed there.

The Longbow Hunters — I’m interested to see what they do with this group.  In the comics, the Longbow Hunters had ties to Diaz as well as the storyline having connections to Shado (Sound familiar?  Could the Shado from Seasons 1 and 2 merely have been inspired by the comic book counterpart, or could we possibly see a return from Shado…or her twin sister?!).  This would actually be pretty cool and completely drop yet another bomb on Oliver’s world.  Could she have somehow returned to get revenge for her father’s death or…her own death?  Hey, it wouldn’t be the first time someone came back from the dead on this show.

Quid Pro Quo — Oliver needs info. regarding Diaz from Brick, and Brick wants a guard taken out.  Can Brick be trusted?  Does Oliver have a choice? The only thing Oliver can get on the guard is the name of his family.  Will Oliver really sacrifice one family for his own?  Now there’s a moral dilemma for you. Since he refuses to turn over the officer’s family, Brick now wants him to shank the guard instead.  Yet again, Oliver just can’t catch a break. Of course, he has a different strategy.  Oliver provokes the cop into laying his hands on him, then he stabs himself setting up the officer.  Nice move, Oliver! Smart.

A.R.G.U.S vs. Team Arrow — Even though A.R.G.U.S are watching over Felicity in protective custody, Diggle now shows where his alliance is as he tells the team to leave everything to the organization. Do they listen?  Of course not, which leads to them losing any type of lead on the Longbow Hunters.  There is a good, heartfelt conversation between Diggle and Felicity about how Diggle couldn’t make the sacrifices Oliver has, but still wants to fight.  I actually don’t mind Team Arrow so far this season (yeah, it’s only episode 2), but that’s more than I could say from the previous seasons.  They actually seem to carry a purpose this time, and they don’t feel forced into a storyline.

A.R.G.U.S. and Team Arrow come into contact with various members of The Longbow Hunters.  Each individual has extremely unique traits that compliment each other.  The Longbow Hunters take down the two groups fairly easily, which was pretty cool to see just how strong the group is.  It even took both Dinah and Laurel using their Canary Cries to take down one member.  Due to their differences of strategy, and priorities, Felicity says she can’t work with Diggle any longer.  Who does she turn to?  The FBI Agent who put Oliver behind bars!

Laurel Is Back — Still bitchy as ever, but Laurel/Black Siren is back as the new DA. Oh, and she is sporting a bullring.  So trendy that Laurel.  Anyways, she wants to take down Diaz herself as revenge for him killing Lance.

What did you think of this week’s episode? A lot to process!  We didn’t even see the Green Arrow, and yet it was still entertaining!  There are so many loose ends.  What did you think of The Longbow Hunters? Why do Roy and William need to go back to the city immediately?  Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!
