Arrow’s First Season Was Inspired By The Dark Knight

The CW’s Arrow will premiere its seventh season this October. The show, at least during its first season was much darker and grittier than other superhero shows. As it turns out there’s a very good reason for that. Stephen Amell, who plays the show’s titular character recently spoke at the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest London, and talked about how Arrow‘s first season was heavily inspired but a movie most of us love, The Dark Knight.

“When the show started the inspiration for the first season was absolutely, positively The Dark Knight. When I was sitting in [Arrow pilot director] David Nutter’s office, it was just photos of The Dark Knight. That was the inspiration for the first season.”

In the minds of many fans, that idea seems pretty obvious.

Arrow and Batman already have some similarities, neither has any actual superpowers, and both of them have tons of money to play with (or at least Oliver Queen started out with a fortune). Unfortunately, due to my schedule, Arrow was pushed to the back of my queue, and the last season I watched in full was the fourth. I enjoyed the show, but just became really busy, and other non-network shows took priority.

Arrow returns Monday, October 6.
