Fans have been pretty confident for some time now that Avengers 4 would see at least one major Marvel Cinematic Universe character say goodbye for good. One such character that’s been discussed endlessly is Captain America. The star-spangled hero has been a mainstay in this universe since Captain America: The First Avenger, and while that interpretation of him was pretty cut-and-dry, things got more interesting in his next film.

In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Cap was betrayed by the organization he worked for and trusted, leading him to become more of a free-thinking champion of true justice. This gray aspect of the hero has made him much more relatable and popular, and also led many to believe he was on the way out with Avengers 4.

Now, actor Chris Evans tweeted a suspect tweet, and we can’t help but feel a bit sad about the whole deal:

“Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”

Okay, so in all fairness, he didn’t straight-up say “I can’t believe I’m done forever,” or anything like that. It could be read that he just finished this monumental film after eight years and as of right now is ready to say goodbye. That doesn’t necessarily mean death, right?

But who are we kidding? This last film has to end with some lasting consequences, and we’re al pretty sure that it’s either him or Iron Man or both who will be meeting their makers, otherwise, the impact will have been lessened.
