Avengers 4 Directors Not Involved In Winter Soldier And Falcon Series

Right now, it’s not an overstatement to say that comic book movie fans have an unshakeable trust in Marvel Studios. Even among our staff, it’s not uncommon to hear the phrase “In Marvel we trust.” If there’s a piece of news that hits that isn’t particularly promising or exciting, we usually shrug and assume the studio will make it work one way or another.

But a part of that also has to do with some of the creatives under producer Kevin Feige that we’ve grown to trust. Anthony and Joe Russo are two such people. With Captain America: The Winter Soldier, they put together what is arguably still one of the strongest films in the whole MCU, with Captain America: Civil War, they proved they could handle a larger cast, and with Avengers: Infinity War, the pretty much accomplished the impossible.

However, as the universe expands, it’s inevitable that some of the characters who have only really existed under their guidance will spill over into the jurisdiction of other filmmakers. I’m talking about The Winter Soldier and Falcon here, who are known to be having an upcoming Disney+ limited series. We’d love for the Russos to be involved, but at a recent Q&A following an Avengers: Infinity War screening, it was confirmed they will NOT be involved.

As sad as it is, such is the way with things. As older directors cycle out, newer ones cycle in and earn our trust. As Joe Russo stated, they don’t plan on coming back until Marvel Studios is ready to tackle Secret Wars, so no matter who is involved in the stories going forward, we can’t expect them to continue on in this world.
