Captain America impresses me. He impressed me the moment his flawless body stepped out of that chamber in Captain America: The First Avenger, but more than that, it’s his will to fight that’s impressed me most. In our modern, jaded era of entertainment, it’s easy to scoff at this guy as a typical Boy Scout, but the filmmakers, writers, and actor Chris Evans, have all succeeded in making a protagonist even us jaded a-holes can root for, all without losing those wholesome aspects that define his character.
But let’s be honest, Captain America impressing me is no big deal. I’m just a dude on the internet hammering away at his keyboard. It doesn’t take a lot to impress me. You know who’s a big judge of people? Thanos. That’s right, the big bad of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame is perhaps the harshest critic of all. And yet, according to co-writer Christopher Markus, the moment where Thanos nearly crushes Cap with his Gauntleted hand is one where Cap impressed the Mad Titan:
“I think in that moment, Thanos is impressed by Steve’s will. He’s like, ‘I can’t believe this guy who apparently has no powers is trying this.’ He’s almost like, ‘Really? Really?’ “

Honestly, at that moment, Thanos also very much had tunnel vision. He wasn’t fighting to kill as much as he was fighting to just get to the final Stone as quickly as possible. Cap’s just lucky he wasn’t in a killing mood that day.
Do you think Thanos let Cap live because he was impressed, or because he was just too focused on the Stone? Let us know your theories down below!
