Avengers: Endgame – CinemaCon Footage Description Confirms Some Theories [SPOILERS]

It’s only three weeks now till we see Avengers: Endgame pounce into theaters and destroy the box office, as such we are in what I call squeaky-bum time. More and more promotional materials are starting to make their way online and as the movie’s release draws closer there is a danger we get a little spoiled about certain aspects very close to release.

The following article contains a description of footage shown at Cinema Con for Avengers: Endgame. So while I was tentative for me there isn’t that much spoilery in here, though it does conform some theories. So, obligatory SPOILER warning for Avengers: Endgame if you read on further, you have been warned!

The Footage Description (Seriously, SPOILERS)

There was some footage of Avengers: Endgame shown to audiences at Cinema Con last night and whilst I myself was fast asleep in bed in the UK, other outlets were in attendance and managed to quickly describe the footage that was shown. The information I have here came from CBM and I will quote the important details and then talk around what they could mean afterward.

“The footage begins with Captain Marvel vowing to take down Thanos herself, but The Avengers are adamant that she doesn’t go it alone. When Black Widow notes that they don’t even know where he is, Nebula chimes in and reveals that The Mad Titan told her about a garden planet he intended to retreat to once his plan was accomplished, and, as we know from the final scene of Infinity War, that’s exactly where he went after “The Snap.” Rocket then pulls up a hologram to show a planet where a massive energy signature was recorded two days prior. Yes, Thanos has used The Infinity Gauntlet again.

As many have speculated, it seems the team’s first plan of action will be to use the still-working Infinity Gauntlet to reverse the effects of the stones once Thanos is defeated. Although we don’t get many details in this clip, at one point Carol proposes that they “use [the stones] to bring everyone back.”At one point, Rhodey asks Danvers where she’s been all this time, and she responds by telling him that “there are a lot of planets not as fortunate to have you guys.” The team decides to use The Benatar to travel to Thanos’ planet and attempt to take him down. Before they board, Cap rallies the troops with an uncharacteristic, “let’s go get this son of a bitch.” We then see the heroes begin their journey, while Rocket asks his new crew if any of them have never been to space before. Cap, Natasha and Rhodey all raise their hands, and Rocket says he doesn’t want anyone puking in his ship. The scene ends with celestial light reflecting in Steve’s eyes as the ship jumps to light-speed.”

The outlet also mentioned that as expected by many of us, neither Tony Stark nor Scott Lang are present at this point and they pondered what they may be doing at this time. Well, let’s just discuss that, shall we?

Speculation

We all thought this first attack on Thanos would be prior to Tony Stark reappearing. Though of course, if Nebula is there, then so must Tony be, so where is Tony exactly? Has he retired and gone off with Pepper who we know is alive and well? Maybe he warns them against going against Thanos as he has been there and done that and is scared to try again?

What we can I think suggest is that Scott Lang’s return from the Quantum Realm, possibly years in the future from this point is what prompts the second and third acts of the movie. Lang is going to present them an opportunity to use time travel and the Quantum Realm to change the past rather than go against Thanos whilst he is in possession of all the Infinity Stones.

Also, Captain Marvel seems a bit confident for me that she can take on Thanos. Now, I know she is extremely powerful, but I’m not sure she’s as powerful as Thanos with the gauntlet or even close frankly. Carol Danvers own powers seem to come from the Tesseract i.e. the Space Stone, it is, therefore, possible that Thanos can easily neutralize her powers since he is in possession of that Stone? We also have not seen Carol thus far in any of the shots we think are from the second or third acts, so one wonders if Carol Danvers ever makes it back from this mission at all? Whatever happens, when the team heads off to face Thanos, we know that after Lang’s return, Tony Stark is present and correct again and is helping the team to fix decimation of Thanos in Infinity War.

This information doesn’t spoil too much, but it does confirm the theory that act one see’s the team battle Thanos again and fail. However, I personally thought this would be before Tony and Nebula made it back home. To be fair, this was a bit silly of me, because on second thought, how could the team have gotten their hands on the spaceship? Rocket came to Earth with Thor using the Bifrost, and as far as we know the Avengers do not yet have space ships. D’oh! My colleagues will be doubting my omniscient predictive powers now, and we can’t have that folks, we can’t have that at all.
