Avengers: Endgame – Here’s Where Two Of The Most Memorable Lines From The Film Came From

No official spoiler warning as the head honchos, Joe and Anthony Russo have deemed today the day spoilers are good to go, so if you haven’t watched Endgame, go back to the LRM homepage and choose another of are engaging articles to read.

Perhaps the biggest spoiler of the film is the passing of Tony Stark. Iron Man went out in such an epic fashion, using one of Thanos’ patened moves against him while wielding the Infinity Gauntlet, and saving the universe. Earlier in the film there was a line said by Tony Stark that people have since fallen in love with. While putting his and Pepper’s daughter, Morgan, to bed, Tony says, “I love you tons.”, to which his daughter replied, “I love you 3000.”

This wonderful and heartfelt line came not from the film’s writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus, but from Robert Downey Jr.. This is a line that RDJ and his children say to each other, and it’s inclusion in Endgame is all due to RDJ.  The original line was simply, “I love you tons.” said back to Tony. What an awesome addition to RDJ’s final appearance as Tony Stark.

Another line, that tugged much less on the heartstrings, and was simply just cool, was Tony Stark saying, “I am Iron Man,” while wielding the Gauntlet. most fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe know that this is super cool because it’s the same line Tony says at the end of Iron Man, the film that gave birth to the MCU, bringing more of that full circle feeling to Tony Stark’s exit. The suggestion of this line came not from Downey Jr., not from Markus or McFeely, and not from co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo, but from an editor by the same of Jeff Ford. The Russos’ were all for the idea, and made sure to get it on film the very next day.

How this line was not thought of before Ford brought it up is beyond me, perhaps it was simply too perfect? That, or it just seems obvious to me now that I’ve heard it. Either way, a better line for the situation could likely not be written, and made you nod you head in agreeance when you heard it.
