Avengers: Endgame Runtime Could Remain At Three Hours According To Directors

Avengers: Endgame is out on April 26, which isn’t long now for us to wait for the conclusion of the story that began in Infinity War. Endgame also serves as the culmination of the first 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and as such, there is likely a lot of content covered in this movie.

We had heard a while ago that the current cut was sitting at around 3 hours long for Endgame and like most we expected this to be trimmed down considerably before its April 26 release. Infinity War was no short movie and that came in around the 2:40 mark. However, according to the Russo brothers in a recent chat with Collider, they may well keep the movie at around 3 hours this time as it is going across well to test audiences. Here is what Joe Russo said.

“We’re still at the three-hour mark, I think the studio is down with what the best story is. Right now, we think the movie is playing well and we’ve had great responses from our test audiences and we’re feeling very good about where it is. We’re still doing work to it. We’re not done with it. Again, this is a culmination film of 22 movies, it’s a lot of storytelling to work into it. Emotion is an intrinsic part of that to us. When you have to tell a really complicated story and you want strong emotional moments with the characters, it just requires a certain amount of real estate. This one, in particular, feels like three hours’ worth of real estate.”

Of course, we cannot say for certain what the runtime will be before release, but it certainly sounds like the movie could end up around the three-hour mark and I’m quite happy with that. Some films could drag with that extra 20 minutes or so, but I get the feeling there is so much going to be happening in this movie that it will still have a great pace to it. I never felt like I was watching a 2 hour 40 movie when I saw Infinity War at theaters. The movie just shot along from first scene and I thought the pacing was great.

Is it wrong that I’m jealous of the people who got to see the test footage for this? Though I’m sure writers for fanboy websites like LRM are the very bottom of the list when it comes to test audiences (EDITOR’S NOTE: We are technically not allowed). I guess I’ll have to wait till April 25 when the movie releases one day early in the UK and then hold my tongue with my colleagues until they get the chance to catch it.

What do you think of the possibility of Endgame reaching a 3 hour run time? Does this seem perfectly balanced to you, as all things should be? Give us a shout down below as always with any thoughts you have.
