UPDATE – Avengers: Endgame SHATTERS Records Worldwide And At Home

UPDATE:

Well… everyone was underestimating this movie. Not only were the initial $250 million domestic estimates wrong, so was yesterday’s $345 million estimate. Box Office Mojo is now reporting Endgame will take over $350 million here in North America and end the weekend with a worldwide take of $1.2 billion. It is smashing records by the tens and hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s already made $330 million in China, and that’s just $29 million less than Infinity War made there.

The link provided above has a list of nearly every record it’s broken so far and it’s a safe bet to assume it will continue to break records. Will it break the worldwide total of Avatar though? I hope so… That movie never deserved that much money. Yeah, I know it looked cool, but was it really a good movie? Did it elicit the emotions that The Winter SoldierThe Dark Knight, or even Infinity War do? Anyways, congrats to the Avengers!

Original Story:

Was there any doubt that Avengers: Endgame would smash records? Last year’s Avengers: Infinity War broke many records itself and its successor is showing that records are meant to be broken. Many people thought the 3-hour runtime for Endgame would make it difficult for the movie to have as many showings in a day as many other blockbusters, but theaters went out of their way to rake in the cash by opening early, staying open later, and dedicating every possible screen to the film. The theater I went to has 16 screens including a premium format screen and 10 were showing Endgame Thursday evening.

Box Office Mojo reported that the Thursday domestic preview take was $60 million which topped the previous record holder, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, $57 million haul. Now the film has made an estimated $156.7 million for its combined preview/opening day beating The Force Awakens by nearly $40 million. The movie now holds the records for single day, opening day, preview night, Friday total, and worldwide opening. As of the morning report from Box Office Mojo, the worldwide total sits at $644 million and may push a weekend opening of $345 million which would be nearly $100 million more than the record Infinity War set last year. On top of that, the unexpected numbers are leading some to believe this movie will have made over $1.1 BILLION come Monday morning.

I’ve seen the movie once and loved it. I plan on seeing it again during the upcoming week. I love seeing good movies break records, and have no problem contributing to that cause. Yeah… I’m a fanboy.
