So here we are. We’re living in a post-Avengers: Endgame world. Pretty much all the questions we’ve had about the world post-snap, how the Avengers handle it, and how it all wraps up, have been answered satisfactorily. But that’s not to say they don’t open up plenty of questions along the way — some of which I’m not sure have been discussed by many of us fans just yet.
More specifically, how does the film open things up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward? I’m not talking about just those Disney+ shows we already know about, but films and other Marvel Studios-produced series down the line. My mind is actually fixated on the upcoming Black Widow movie.

At this point, we know Black Widow has passed on, having sacrificed herself for her Avengers family. We all know she has a movie coming up…so what will that movie entail? By this point, we all seem to agree that an origin movie is more likely featuring a young Natasha Romanoff…but is that a foregone conclusion? After all, there was a five-year period where there could have been PLENTY of superhero shenanigans going on.
That’s right, coming out of that movie, one thing became clear: the events of the five years post-Thanos still exist, and there was likely a whole lot of superhero assistance needed. This five-year period could not only be a prime period to set a Black Widow-centric film, where she’s leading those secondary Avengers characters on separate missions, but it is also a hotbed of potential for each of those other characters to have side missions of their own.
Think about it? Could we get a War Machine and Rocket series, or maybe even one that follows Nebula? This could be a way we can grow attached to some of these secondary characters in more intimate stories before they are utilized again in higher-stakes stories down the line.
And then there’s one more way the Russo Brothers wrote Marvel Studios a blank check. Yes, we know Chris Evans is out as Captain America…but in 10 years, who’s to say he won’t be down to take up the shield once again? We can then indulge in that secondary timeline branch he created when he went back in time. I personally don’t think he would have been idle in his decades living out his life with Peggy Carter.
There is potential there for a series of Captain America stories more in line with the original comics and those older stories.
In short, through the use of time travel, the Russos have managed to not only wrap up the universe with a little bow, but give the studio an even bigger playground to play in.
