Avengers: Infinity War Becomes Highest Grossing Marvel Movie In China

Avengers: Infinity War has been a huge success across the globe in the box office, despite only recently opening in China, a huge market these days.

Now a report by LA Times shows that Infinity War has become the highest grossing Marvel movie so far in China. This was expected, given even before Marvel’s 19th movie debuted, it had already broken Chinese pre sale ticket record.

Infinity War since opening in China has made $300 million in that region alone and it still has time to climb even higher. The movie has now made $1.8 billion worldwide and analysts predict this could climb as high as the $2 billion mark with it expected to breach $1.9 billion over the weekend, despite competition from Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens finished up with $2.068 billion. It’s tricky to say whether Avengers: Infinity War will pass another milestone and end up making more money than any Star Wars film has made, but at this point it is still feasible.

The Chinese market has become the second biggest market in the world in recent years and there’s no telling what kind of legs the movie will have in China in the long run.

One thing is for certain, Avengers: Infinity War has been well received critically and financially and that’s going to be a massive boon for Disney as they continue to dominate box office across all their varied IP’s. This year has seen Black Panther and Infinity War do mega business already and we still have Solo: A Star Wars Story to factor in. With Ant-Man and the Wasp still to come from Disney this year, and this is just based on their Marvel and Star Wars IP’s, its looking like another good year for Disney.
