The amount of secrecy surrounding Avengers: Infinity War is unprecedented. Whenever a press junket rolls around, critics usually get an early screening of the films in their entirety. This includes all the Marvel Cinematic Universe films in recent memory. However, with Avengers: Infinity War, those screenings will only show footage from the film — not the entire film itself.
With that in mind, I assumed it wouldn’t be until that stage of the process, but with the film opening in just a few weeks, it makes sense that it’s starting now. Marvel will be showing the first thirty minutes to press and fans over the next few weeks, and one such screening we now know about comes thanks to Digital Spy, who posted their first impressions.
“We’ve just seen 30 mins of #AvengersInfinityWar. Can’t say too much but it’s way ambitious, it’ll switch tones between different groups (the Guardians sequence had a very different, look, feel and soundtrack to the New York scenes) and it’s going to be funny. Still no Hawkeye!”

The oddest takeaway here may be the comedy of the film. Not only are the stakes in this one ridiculously high, but the film also comes from screenwriters Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and from directors Joe and Anthony Russo. While they are a solid team, and their films to have elements solid humor, it’s not necessarily the thing fans remember.
More than anything, it’s the hard-hitting action set pieces and high stakes that take the cake. It’s nice to know that, even in the face of insurmountable challenge, there is still humor. But will fans be disappointed? And where the hell is Hawkeye? If nothing else, I’m happy that they’re going ambitious with this film, and hope they can stick the landing.
