Based on what we’ve seen so far in the trailers, Black Panther looks to be a good time in the theaters — one that seems jam-packed with characters, action scenes, and brand-new tech. It’s a lot to fit in one movie, for sure, and it made us wonder whether or not the Winter Soldier would have a role in this film.

When last we saw Bucky Barnes, he was put back on ice following the events in Captain America: Civil War. Given that he’ll technically in Wakanda during the events of Black Panther, it’s not unreasonable to wonder whether or not he’d be cracking skulls alongside the guardian of Wakanda. Based on a new prequel comic to Avengers: Infinity War, it doesn’t look like it.

ComicBook.com released a new image from the newly-released Avengers: Infinity War Prelude #1 comic, and in it, we see T’Challa and Shuri discussing the difficulty in “rebooting” Bucky. All in all, it sounds like they’re good to flush out those dangerous trigger words we saw in Captain America: Civil War, and that the algorithm developed by Shuri will also help in Wakanda’s own advancement.

What does this all mean? Well, it means that Bucky is still very much on ice during the Avengers: Infinity War prequel, and that as good of a confirmation as any that he won’t be out and about in Black Panther, which is likely for the best. As much as I’d love to see him interact with T’Challa, that movie seems packed enough as it is.
