Avengers: Joe Russo Thinks Chris Evans Is Done With Captain America

Avengers: Endgame brought some real closure to some threads that have been hanging since the humble beginnings of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Most importantly, it brought Tony Stark’s story to a satisfying close and it even ended Captain America’s involvement with the Avengers going forward.

But fans are fans, and where many others see closure, we see nothing but opportunity. It’s the reason why, even when we see Tony Stark die, we hear the hammering in the distance and pretty much assume it means some iteration of him will live on. It’s also the reason why many of us (myself included) can’t help but wonder what Cap was up to when he went back in time to be with Peggy. Is it possible that we could follow a whole other series of films with that timeline?

Co-director Joe Russo was there to pour cold water on this theory when speaking to EW Radio:

“I think [Chris] Evans is done with the character. I think it’s been a long road for him, and I think that’s Cap’s story. It was a nice story, but you can imagine in your own head another Cap story taking place in that alternate timeline.”

Make no mistake, the potential is there, but Russo was telling the truth when it’s been a long road for Evans. From day one, it seemed evident that Evans was eager to finish Cap’s story, and while he seemed to grow more enthusiastic on the heels of the first Avengers movie, you can’t blame him for wanting to step back after playing the character for around a decade or so.

What do you think of Russo’s comments? Do you think we’ll ever see Chris Evans play Steve Rogers again? Let us know down below!
