Avengers: Robert Downey Jr. Asked Disney NOT To Push Him For Oscars

When the Oscar nominations process was begun for Avengers: Endgame, it was notable that there was no direct push for a nomination for Robert Downey Jr. in his final performance as Tony Stark. I don’t get to watch as many movies as I used to and as such I certainly haven’t seen every great performance by an actor this year, I haven’t even seen Phoenix as Joker yet. So far though, I think RDJ’s final turn as Tony Stark was the best I’ve personally seen this year.

So why didn’t Disney push RDJ for an Oscar? Maybe they didn’t think it was a possibility, however the actor himself says that he asked Disney not to. Robert Downey Jr. was recently on the The Howard Stern Show and this is what he said when asked about an Oscar nod for Avenger: Endgame.

“I’m so glad you brought this up because there was some talk about and I said ‘let’s not.’ and because I’m much more like you than you might really want to believe. I listen to the show and I agree with most all of your opinions, varied though they may be. Occasionally, you’ll go on some tributary trail of thought I’ll go like ‘oh that’s not how I see it, but I love that you see it that way.'”

In usual RDJ fashion, that comment started off intelligible and then he lost me at the end. I know that’s just his wandering tongue style, but I genuinely have no more insight as to why he asked Disney not to nominate him for Avengers: Endgame from watching that clip.

If you watch the video itself, you can also catch RDJ commenting on the Martin Scorsese story, you know, the one where he said superhero movies were not cinema. At this point though, I don’t think there’s anything more to be said about it all. Scorsese said what he thinks and you can either agree or disagree with that.

Should Robert Downey Jr. have been pushed for an Oscar nomination by Disney or not, or tell us what you think about the Scorsese situation if that’s your thing. Either way share them if you got them in the usual spot below.
