
Awkwafina has had a meteoric rise in her career in film and on screen. From Ocean’s Eight to the upcoming The Little Mermaid, The Asian Society Southern California honored the young actress and singer with the Culture Visionary award for her accomplishments.
This past weekend, the organization held its 2023 Annual Gala honoring Awkwafina, Toni Ko (Business Visionary), Nikesh Arora (Tech Visionary), Noriko Honda Chen (Asian Women Empowered (AWE) Visionary), and Sonia Cheng (Hotel Visionary).
Also, they presented a special tribute to sports athletes with two-time Olympic bronze medalists Maia and Alex Shibutani. The sports tribute recognized Asian and Asian-American athletes that included Jun Endo (Angel City FC), Ali Riley (Angel City FC), Alyssa Thompson (Angel City FC) Rui Hachimura (Los Angeles Lakers), Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Angels), Lang Ping (Volleyball hall of famer), Taylor Rapp (Los Angeles Rams), and Michell Wie West (LGPA golfer).
