According to several trades over the weekend, there is a Bane and Deathstroke movie in development for the DCU. At least, given that the story says James Gunn and Peter Saffran are producing, I assume it’s for the DCU. Here is what Deadline had to say on this news.
‘Sources confirm to Deadline that the studio is in early development on a new movie involving classic Gotham villains Bane and Deathstroke. Matthew Orton has been set to pen the script, with DC Studio co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran producing.’
‘No director is attached and the studio had no comment.’
‘Exact plot details are still uncertain and sources also stressed the two characters would be in the movie but it’s unclear if they would be the central figures of the project.’

Strange one this. On one hand this could be a movie focussed on these characters. However, none of the trades so far can confirm if that is the case, or the characters just appear in another movie. Just stating the obvious, but could this not simply be for Batman: The Brave and the Bold? I assume not or that would have been stated. If all the trades get the news on the same day, my guess is an official leak from DC studios PR people to gauge reactions. Then again, that’s merely a guess.
I think we will just have to wait for more news on this one. Without more context around how this works, it’s hard to get excited by it as a fan. Is it a Bane and Deathstroke team up movie, or are they just villains in another movie?
