Batman: Arkham Origins Developers Tease A New Arkham Game On Social Media

The Batman: Arkham games have proved immensely popular with fans since the first game Batman: Arkham Asylum first hit consoles. That popularity was maintained through the sequel Arkham City and then the third game Arkham Knight. However, there was a game in between Arkham City and Arkham Knight from a different studio, not Rocksteady, and that was Arkham Origins.

Arkham Origins used most of the same assets as Arkham City, in fact it was essentially the same map with some alternate weather effects and a few other changes. However, Origins dealt with an earlier time for Batman, a prequel if you like to Arkham Asylum that saw the Joker revealed to Batman for the first time. The game was not as well received as those made by Rocksteady, but still did well for WB Games Montreal, in fact it had some very good ideas that were unique to the game, alas, it also came with quite a few technical niggles compared to the Rocksteady efforts.

Since Arkham Knight there has been no news of a fifth Arkham game, original developers Rocksteady have been very quiet and fans assumed they were perhaps working on a new instalment, though there were also rumors they were trying to develop a Superman game instead. But with Batman day happening this past week, WB Games Montreal has put the Catwoman amongst the pigeons by teasing what appears to be a new Arkham game from their team. Check out the Twitter post below, but, don’t be surprised if it means nothing to you right away.

The post doesn’t at first appear to be about anything other than a Bat symbol on a building of theirs, however there are four images that are flashed on screen very briefly and of course, as fans do, those images have been slowed down and explored in detail. Now, they mean nothing to me I admit, but I am told that at least two of these images represent Ra’s Al Ghul (The Demon’s Head) and The Court of Owls. Now, most fans seems to think this is a tease that WB Games Montreal are making an Arkham game that will explore the story of The Court of Owls. Having read up on this a little it seems like this game was rumored recently before this tease, and we also have to mention the now deleted post from author of The Court of Owls story Scott Snyder. I’ve seen a screenshot of this post which replied to the tease above and simply said #bewarerthecourtofowls followed by “Wait for it!” However it does seem as though Snyder jumped the gun and the post as said above was quickly deleted.

If we add it all up, it seems like a certainty now that WB Games Montreal are making a new Batman: Arkham game and the game will focus on The Court of Owls story. The question seems to be whether this will be a prequel once again, and to be honest that does seem the most likely scenario. Batman: Arkham Knight ended with Bruce faking his own death after being outed as Batman, only for Rocksteady to tease a future game that might get into the Batman Beyond story, where Bruce plays the Alfred role to his son’s Batman. If that game ever gets made, then I think it’s going to come from Rocksteady themselves. It seems therefore like a given that this game would work best as a prequel again, set maybe before the events of Arkham Asylum, but definitely after the Arkham Origins game.

Perhaps the game will also feature The Dark Knight’s first introduction to Ra’s Al Ghul, given the tease for that character despite him being a major part of Arkham City. So we still have no idea what Rocksteady are working on, but a new Arkham Origins game using the assets created for Arkham Knight certainly appeals to this Bat fan.
