Batman Goes Back In Time In Batman Ninja Trailer!

Every so often, an anime studio puts out a series or film based on an American superhero, and more often than not, they’re mediocre at best. However, the latest film to carry on that trend, Batman Ninja, has our attention.

Rather than simply be a standard series or film, this upcoming film takes advantage of its anime-ness to bring the setting away from Gotham City. In Batman Ninja, during an altercation with the Joker, Batman ends up in the middle of the feudal Japan era.

To make matters worse, it looks like in this time period, the Joker has become the most powerful man in the country, and is looking to change the course of the country’s history. Batman no longer has his high tech gadgets at his disposal, and now has to resort to his tried-and-true fighting skills.

Admittedly, I’m not the biggest fan of this relatively recent trend in anime to render CG character designs, and more often than not, I felt like this would have turned out a hell of a lot better in full 2D animation. That being said, it’s an intriguing premise, and I found myself enjoying quite a bit of it, in spite of the CG characters. In its favor, this film does come from screenwriter Kazuki Nakashima, who is best known for his work on series Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill.
