‘BATMAN v SUPERMAN’ Director, Cast, and Producers Weigh in On Potential For ‘MAN OF STEEL’ Sequels

Not all fans were happy when MAN OF STEEL 2 turned into BATMAN v SUPERMAN. In the eyes of some, Superman was a character that was well deserving of a sequel, and considering he still had plenty of growth to do as a character, spending half of that time on Batman would only stunt his character development even more.

WB and DC went on to announce an entire slate of DC films, and not a single film was a standalone Superman film. So what does this mean for fans? Will we get another Superman film any time soon?

In an interview with IGN, director Zack Snyder, actor Henry Cavill, and producer Charles Roven weighed in on the potential for future standalone Superman movies.

Zack Snyder was the first to speak:

“I think if we can get a good script, it’d be great to have a standalone Superman movie. I think that’d be fun to do.”

[…]

“Part of the reason we haven’t announced the standalone Superman movie at this time was to support some of the events of this film.”

Henry Cavill stated that the future of Superman would likely hinge on the success of BATMAN v SUPERMAN:

“I do believe it depends upon the success of this movie. If this goes well, then we can start negotiating with Warner Bros. to develop a standalone Superman. But they’ve got their plan set out for other stuff and JUSTICE LEAGUE and various other movies. It’s about find the time, really. It’s something I’d be very keen to do.”

Charles Roven confirmed that they have indeed even been looking into the prospect over another film:

“We’re in the process of looking at that, but we don’t have it on the schedule at the moment because we’re quite busy with the movies we have scheduled.”

All of these comments essentially boil down to the same thing: we’ll see. No studio wants to rule any idea out, especially if it can make them money, and even the boldest of plans are subject to some real change. While the DCEU seems to be really big in its ambition, it would be nice to have a quieter Superman film that makes progress in turning the character into the boy scout many fans know and love.
