Batwoman and Gotham City Are Coming To The Arrowverse

Fans of the Arrowverse get some good news today as CW’s small screen shared universe is going to get a little bit bigger. Involved in the next Arrowverse crossover will be Batwoman and Gotham City. This will add to a universe that already includes characters from shows such as Supergirl, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and of course Arrow. The news was announced at the CW’s Upfronts by Arrow himself, Stephen Amell.

“We’re incredibly excited to announce that we’ll be doing another crossover event this fall on the CW, and we’ll be introducing a new character. For the very first time appearing, we’ll be fighting alongside Batwoman, which is terrific. The crossover is going to make it to air in December. I need to leave right now and start filming it.”

While fans would have loved to have seen Oliver Queen and Bruce Wayne interact, this is still cool that someone from Gotham City with “Bat” in their name is going to be joining in on the crossover fun. Batwoman has been around since the mid 50’s, but for a time the character sort of took a back seat once Batgirl arrived. Hopefully, this will lead to other characters that reside in Gotham City to also join the Arrowverse.

Even though Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen referenced Bruce Wayne and Gotham City early in Arrow’s sixth season, it appears as if Batman will never be part of the CW’s shared universe, says Arrow executive producer, Marc Guggenheim.

“No, I love a good Easter egg, and I love doing the occasional name drop. You know, we name-dropped Hal Jordan at the beginning of Season 3, but it’s really just fun for us. I think in the Arrowverse we have our own Justice League, and the Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Batman … these are all characters that are either spoken for on the movie side and/or other shows. There’s a Bruce Wayne on Gotham.”
