Arrow may be prepping for its abbreviated final season — bringing an end to an interesting era of television — but that’s not to say that the Arrowverse in its entirety is set to implode immediately after. As was teased last year during the Elseworlds crossover, we have a new hero on the way in the form of Batwoman, played by Ruby Rose.
In that crossover, Gotham had gone to hell. Bruce Wayne (and consequently, Batman) had been missing for three years, and the only one who could actually help keep things mildly under control is Kate Kane’s Batwoman. Things aren’t exactly ideal when we meet her, but she more or less seems to have things under control, but seeing as this episode was kind of a test for a potential Batwoman series, would it make sense that the first season would take place after this crossover?
Apparently not. Executive producer Greg Berlanti revealed some details to Deadline, saying that the Batwoman pilot “origin story that we set up predates the crossover; it’s a story prior to the crossover.”
This is especially interesting because it would seem to imply that, like Gotham, it will show a slow spiral of a city out of control. That being said, just because a series starts somewhere, doesn’t mean it needs to stay there the entire time (time skips are a thing). Additionally, it’s always possible the pilot isn’t picked up for a series, so this could all be for naught.
