Early Thursday morning, Warner Bros. related the trailer for their upcoming drama The Way Back, starring Ben Affleck. Click the video below to get the first peek at what looks to be an emotional performance.

Due out in March, the film focuses on Affleck’s Jack Cunningham, a former star who’s gone down a rough path. Warner Bros. describes the film in this synopsis:

A former high school basketball phenom [Affleck], struggling with alcoholism, is offered a coaching job at his alma mater. As the team starts to win, he may have a reason to confront his old demons. But will it be enough to set him on the road to redemption?

The film undoubtedly plays parallel to Affleck’s personal life, with the actor admitting to a continued battle with alcoholism throughout the years. Judging by the trailer alone, Affleck channelled those personal demons and infused them with the character he’s portraying—which will only add to the quality of performance he’s bound to give.

The film is directed by Gavin O’Connor, who directed Pride & GloryWarrior, and directed Affleck in The Accountant. The screenplay for the film was co-written by O’Connor and Brad Ingelsby, who penned the screenplay for Out Of The Furnace, which featured Affleck’s little brother Casey alongside Christian Bale, Zoe Saldana, Sam Shepard, Willem Dafoe, Forest Whitaker, and Woody Harrelson. Affleck and O’Connor also serve as producers on the film.

The Way Back is scheduled to be released March 6, 2020.
