In a world where live adaptations of animated properties are all the rave, Paramount Players along with Walden Media and Nickelodeon Movies have recently wrapped up production on the live adaptation of Dora The Explorer. In this film, we will see Isabela Moner of Paramount’s’ Instant Family play the lead role of Dora, a girl accustomed to the jungle life with her parents and now is challenged with high school.
Along with Moner, the cast includes Michael Pena and Eva Longoria as her parents, Eugenio Derbez, Adriana Barraza, Temuera Morrison and others. But according to The Hollywood Reporter the voice of Dora’s longtime villain, Swiper the thieving fox, has been cast. Benicio del Toro has closed a deal to voice the fox.
In the Dora the Explorer television series, Swiper has appeared in nearly every episode to steal from Dora and Boots, which is when Dora will say one of the show’s signature catchphrases “Swiper, no swiping”. His live action version now has the voice of an actor who has had quite the year as he reprised his role in both Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Avengers: Infinity War. He is also starring in Showtime’s limited crime series Escape at Dannemora.
This film directed by James Bobin, sees our titular character off to high school. She will lead her best friend Boots, who happens to be a monkey, Diego and a group of teenagers in a Goonies like adventures to rescue her parents and solve the mystery behind a lost Inca civilization.
Although we’ll only hear his voice, Del Toro is one hell of an addition to a cast filled with some pretty well known names in Hollywood. What do you think of Del Toro voicing Swiper? Let us know in the comment section below!
Dora the Explorer has a theater release date of August 2nd, 2019.
