Big City Greens | Chris Houghton and Shane Houghton Interview [Exclusive]

Big City Greens

Country folks in the city always have the best adventures. The brothers and creators of Disney’s Big City Greens Chris Houghton and Shane Houghton were influenced by their childhood in a small rural town of St. Johns, Michigan.

With those locations and people, their fun animated characters are based on their own family members and real-life townsfolk.

Not only Big City Greens is Disney’s number one show and its third season premiere, but the team also received a renewal for a fourth season at the Disney Channel and a movie musical inspired by the series.

In this new third season, it brings big changes for the optimistic mischief-maker 10-year-old Cricket, who moved from the country to the big city with his wildly out-of-place family: hard-working Bill, sweet-and-sour Gramma Alice, and quirky older sister Tiller. Later in the season, Till participates in a rite-of-passage event—Green style.

The animated series voice cast includes Chris Houghton as Cricket Green, Artemis Pebdani (Scandal) as Gramma Alice, Marieve Herington (How I Met Your Mother) as Tilly Green, and Bob Joles (Puss in Boots) as Bill Green.

LRM Online Gig Patta spoke with the creators and animators Chris Houghton and Shane Houghton on their latest season, their roots, and their future projects.

Chris Houghton worked at Nickelodeon as a storyboard artist on shows such as Fanboy & Chum Chum and Harvey Beaks, in which the latter was a collaboration with his brother. He worked at Disney on huge shows such as Wander Over Yonder, and Gravity Falls. He helped out on the episode “Clogged” on Mickey Mouse. Then their big break came with Big City Greens, which at the time was called Country Club.

Shane Houghton began his career working in short films and eventually fell into animation. He started working on the Nickelodeon series Harvey Beaks with his brother, Chris. Then he followed his brother to Disney to develop Big City Green, which was called Country Club at the time.

Big City Greens premieres tomorrow, February 12 at 9 a.m. EST/PST on the Disney Channel.
